PACK SPECIFICATIONS
FABRICS
Nylon 210D Double Ripstop - Strong and lightweight, this is a great pack fabric. With weight always a concern, we have improved our fabric to be even more lightweight with the same durability.
1000D TexNylon - When the nylon fibers are texturized, they become more abrasion resistant, making this fabric an excellent choice for the bottoms of packs and other high wear areas.
Tough Grip - A rubberized fabric that provides a "non slip" surface, good for lumbar pads.
DuraForm - Used on our ComfortFit shoulder straps, this "fabric" feels great and is "tough as nails". Because it stretches, it perfectly contours to your shoulders and eliminates wrinkles and puckers that can rub and cause sore spots. The knit covering feels very soft to the touch but is extremely durable for a lifetime of use. It also incorporates a small center section of foam to contour to all areas of your shoulders.
Spantex - Combines a texturized nylon for strength, a "soft" nylon for comfort, and a "stretchable" nylon for a custom fit.
AV Mesh - AV stands for "Air Ventilation", and as the name implies, adds additional comfort because it really vents. The construction of the mesh has some "depth" built into it, which means all of the "holes" in the mesh don't immediately get mashed closed (like other traditional meshes) and remain open to breathe more.
FOAMS
HDPE - High Density Polyethylene. Not really a "foam" but an important part of waist belts and pack backs because it helps to stabilize and distribute weight when carrying heavy loads.
Atilon - The firmest foam we use. It's base material is PE (polyethylene), but unlike normal grades of PE, Atilon has a much better "memory", which allows it to recover to it's original shape after being "squashed" by a piece of webbing, a buckle, or one of your bones! This firm foam is sometimes called "closed cell" foam.
EVA - A firm ("closed cell") foam, but having more memory and recovery than Atilon.
C2000 - A blend of EVA and PE, which makes it "solid" in terms of weight distribution but the EVA gives it great memory and recovery.
PU - Polyurethane, the softest foam we use. Typically referred to as "open cell" foam. It is used on the inside of waist belts for cushioning.
BUCKLES - THREAD - CONSTRUCTION
Buckles - Like the rest of our components, we only use the best, and with buckles it's National Molding.
Thread - 3 ply Nylon, averaging 8-10 SPI (stitches per inch).
Internal Frame Stays - 6061 aluminum
Construction Details - All inside seams are double sewn and covered with "seam corner binding". All stress points are bartacked (not just backtacked ) at least once. When possible, gussets are used to further distribute the stress over a larger area. All nylon webbing is hot cut to deter raveling. Larger than normal zippers are used (#10 on larger openings - #8 on pockets) to lessen the chance for failure. Nickel plated zipper sliders are used for the longest closure life. |
